The Ombudsman

Honourable Justice Winston H. D. Patterson, Ombudsman of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana is a public advocate representing the interest of members of the public by investigating and addressing complaints of maladministration or violation of rights.

Prior to this constitutional appointment, he presided as Supreme Court Judge in the High Court as well as an additional judge in the Court of Appeal in Guyana.

Justice Patterson can best be described as an experienced Caribbean Jurist who presided in several Caribbean Jurisdictions. 

He was privileged to work as: Registrar of the Supreme Court and Senior Magistrate in Guyana; Registrar, Additional Magistrate and Provost Marshal in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court St. Kitts and Nevis; Magistrate, Chief Magistrate and President of the Family Court in St. Vincent and The Grenadines and also presided as Magistrate in the Judiciary of Barbados prior to his appointment as a Supreme Court Judge in Guyana.

Justice Patterson was admitted to practice at the Bar as an Attorney – at – Law in 1983 in the Supreme Courts of Trinidad and Tobago and The Co-operative Republic of Guyana. Subsequently, he was called to the Bar to practice his profession in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court St. Kitts and Nevis as well as in the Supreme Court of Barbados.
